“travel broadens the mind”…. I certainly do agree! The problem is that we dogs aren’t accepted everywhere. Therefore this site, ‘cause although it isn’t always easy to find a suitable place to stay, nothing is impossible!
You’ll find campsites, B&B’s, hotels, rural houses or apartments….whatever suits you and your human fellows best.
Like always, they expect us to be calm and behave. But,…. I expect this won’t be a problem. I never met a dog so far who was drunk, didn’t want to pay the bill or took away some towels as a souvenir!
As I live in Spain, at this moment I’ve got more possibilities in Spain than elsewhere. Please do join in, if you know appropriate accommodations in other countries as well as in Spain. Of course only places you hardly recommend as this is a non-profit site and not a way of free publicity just because.

Hotel Norte y Londres**
Stay: 12th September 2017
Woof-woof, It’s me, Tibor again exploring interesting cities for you all! This time I told Tessa and my humans that I would be thrilled to see where my brother Zoë was living as he moved to the outskirts of Burgos. As my birthday was up to come, they fulfilled my wish!
We found a nice two star hotel Norte y Londres , situated right in the heart of the historical centre of Burgos in the pedestrian area at Alonso Martínez square, just about 150 m away from the famous Cathedral. Foundered in 1904 it’s the most antique one of all the “Posadas” along the Camino de Santiago. The impressive hall decorated with antique furniture sets you back in time.
The best of the hotel was that we got the most heart-warming welcome you can imagine. The receptionists were paying so much attention to Tessa that she was even allowed to put her paws on the reception desk, something they never let us do anywhere. Put honestly, she’s great being cute to get all the attention.
Our humans were very thankful about the friendliness. Our room was OK, clean and with everything you need. The furniture again is a bit outdated as well as the bathroom installations as you do hear quite well when someone in another room has to go to the loo. Therefore the price is great, keeping in mind you’re right in the centre. The hotel offers a special parking ticket for the public parking at Plaza de España or you can park somewhere around in the streets.
There is no extra charge for us dogs and there is a nice little park for your potty just in front of the hotel.
** There’s lots to see and visit in Burgos city. Some of the nearest landmarks from the hotel are the San Gil Church, Museum of Human Evolution, Cathedral, Plaza Mayor square, Art Centre Caja de Burgos. If you fancy a nice run and you’re into meeting some other furry fellows I would recommend you to visit Fuentes Blancas Park about a 5 minute drive from the hotel.
***Unfortunately Burgos policy on dogs being able to visit restaurants and bars is very strict. You’re only allowed outside at the terraces. During Summer and when the weather is fine that’s OK but you might want to avoid the rest of the year. Definitely not the most dog-friendly city I’ve been to!

La Casa del Patrón
Stay: 21th – 23st July 2017
Casa del Patrón is a hotel located in the centre of Murgia a little town near Vitoria-Gasteiz with lovely houses surrounded by nature. Our family got a heart-warming welcome, although there were the three of us, me Winter with my charming daughter Audrey and our friend Summer (Border Collie as well). They even kept our home cooked natural food in their fridge during our stay (all well sealed of course).
This accommodation offers fourteen rooms all exterior. Seven are located on the second floor of the building and the other seven in the charming attic, with sloping ceilings and large windows from where you can watch the stars. All rooms are fully equipped. There are no additional costs for us dogs.
Surrounded by a variety of squares and parks with plenty of space and grass to go for a walk and potty break there are a lot of walks to explore around. The restaurant doesn’t allow us to enter, but you can join your humans at the beautiful terrace. Andrea and Javi had their breakfast there while we were with them. Another option is to stay meanwhile in the room, no restrictions here either. If you’re not happy to wait alone in the room you might want to wait in the car, as there is a garage for clients to park. We felt a 100% at home and I can definitely recommend this place. We will come back for sure!
**La Casa de Patrón is situated near the National Park of Gorbea and the “centro educación Canina” (dog training facilities specialised in herding) of Oscar Murguia where you can take herding classes as well as others.

Hotel Rural Coviella
Stay: July 2017
This weekend I went once more to Cangas de Onís to practise my skills herding. I’m already great at Agility but I really enjoy doing all sort of activities. I never get enough, you know. Woof, by the way let me introduce myself, I’m Seelie a gorgeous Border Collie.
Tu enjoy a bit more this time I got really spoilt with an overnight stay in a Rural Hotel included. My family got me this fancy Hotel Rural Coviella called after the village at about 6 km from Cangas de Onís.
This Rural Hotel offers 10 comfortable double rooms all in a nice antique Asturian-style house dated from the XIX century, and completely renovated in 2004. The rooms are divided over two buildings, the main house and the annex building. The first hosts four cosy rooms and the annex six more, all with a terrace next to the garden. We choose one of these as the accept dogs in those rooms. Just wonderful with your own terrace and only one jump into the garden with sun but also shade! No extra costs for us either. You can run around in the garden as we are allowed of the lead as well as long as you behave and your family supervises you.
Nearby you’ll be happy to find rivers to go for a swim or just a quick bath. There’s a huge variety of restaurants, local sidrerias and bars with terraces where you will feel welcome to join your family while they’re having lunch or dinner.
** Hotel Rural Coviella is situated just along the river Sella. Ideal to discover nature and all the little gems Asturias has to offer. Access to places such as the National Park of Picos de Europe, the Covadonga lakes, Sotres, Cares gorge walk…

Ellesmere House (B&B)
Stay: 10th – 13th June 2017
The second B&B where I (Tibor) stayed with my pack during my UK-journey was at Ellesmere House at the entrance of a lovely town called Castle Cary in Somerset. The landlady was called Melanie, just like my human friend, so special!
The three-floored Victorian house has got a great garden. From the windows you’ve got amazing views out the back lead onto fields accessed from a gate in the garden. From the front it overlooks Glastonbury Tor. My daughter Tessa and I loved exploring around in the garden. We had access to every part of it without being called back not once. It is somewhere to feel totally relaxed as if you are in your own house. Melanie, the hostess really adores dogs! She just couldn’t get enough of hugging us. There were two house-dogs too. We wanted to play with the greyhound, but she was recovering from surgery so we unfortunately we couldn’t. Maybe next time.
Our humans loved the spacious room. Each room is beautifully decorated in an elegant Bohemian style. It was all very clean, and we loved the soft touch of the floor. The continental breakfast is on the house – yoghurt, locally baked bread, croissants, granola, muesli and such like – if people would like a cooked breakfast it is £7.50 per person. They also organise suppers on request. The coffee was great too! Like in most English B&B there were tea/coffee facilities in the room. We didn’t have an en-suite room but the shared bathroom was great and our humans had it all for themselves anyway.
I especially loved the garden and the walking facilities just starting from the garden. It’s only a short walk to the centre of Castle Cary. I was welcome in most of the bars and restaurants.
There might be an extra charge for dogs at Ellesmere House. Just talk to them about it.
** There are plenty of bars en restaurants nearby where you can go to with your humans. A nice place to explore interesting sights such as Stonehenge, Salisbury, Bath, Bristol, Bradford-on-Avon etc. Melanie and Jasper the hosts will be glad to help you!

The Palk Arms, Hennock, Devon
Stay: 8th – 10th June 2017
On my first trip through the UK with my daughter Tessa, and my human friends, I (Tibor) spent our first two nights at a lovely B&B house called ‘The Palk Arms’. It is a 16th Century Free House, situated in Hennock only 2 miles from Bovey Tracey, within Dartmoor National Park. This independent village pub offers four nice en-suite rooms (B&B). All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, a flatscreen TV, hairdryer and free Wifi.
My humans raved about the fantastic quality of the bed, as I had my own travellers-sleeping bag with me, and I’m never allowed to get on the bed, I’ve got to trust them on that one. The bathroom was tiny, but had all you need. The room was very clean too. Not too much noise from the bar underneath either, they said. There’s free parking a bit further (30 cow lengths) up the hill.
What a friendly welcome I got when we entered the pub! Not only by the staff, and the owners Ivan and Jane with their great four-legged pal Olive, also the locals (clients of the bar) were all very friendly. I felt like I was just one more of the village.
The traditional rural Devon pub offers locally brewed real ales, great wines and serves high quality pub food at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere with extensive views over the Teign Valley.
During meals you’re allowed to be with your humans at all time unless you’re on the lead. It was great to be with them during breakfast and dinner time.
We really like Jane’s and Ivan’s recommendations about the big field next to the camping where Tessa and I could run freely and relief ourselves. Probably Olive’s favourite too! My humans liked all the details about walks and making sure they had all the information they needed.
They do charge £7.50 to cover the cost for carpet cleaning after every stay of dogs. My humans didn’t bother as we really enjoyed our stay and we felt very welcome as a pack. Hopefully we come back!
** The Palk Arms is a traditional rural pub and a firm favourite with walkers, cyclists, horse riders, tourists and locals. One of the few independent village pubs in the area. Set high above the Teign Valley it has wonderful panoramic views over the rolling hills and beautiful countryside near Bovey Tracey and within the Dartmoor National Park. Maps and tourist information available.

Stay: 2016 and 2017
Woof-Woof, my name is Nimbus, and I’m a gorgeous Border Collie. I’m a real traveldog and this time I’m going to tell you about a great Apart-Hotel called Punta Cabicastro situated in the province Galicia of Spain. It was my second time already, ‘cause both my human friend and I feel very welcome here.
This hotel is located in Portonovo, 150 m away from the beach “Canelas” where dogs aren’t allowed. But although we can’t join our humans at the beaches of Sanxenxo and Portonovo, not far away in O Grove (about 20 km / 30 minutes by car) you’ll find two dogfriendly beaches called “O Portiño” and “O Espiño”.
Besides the excellent and (dog-)friendly staff this hotel has a lot to offer. Facilities such as a playground for children, activity programmes, swimming pool (outdoor/indoor), private parking, restaurant, bar, garden etc. Have a look for more details at their website or Facebook. A great place for the whole family!
They do charge extra for us dogs but my human friend doesn’t mind. It’s worth our stay. We are allowed to stay in the apartment as long as we behave well. As I did, sometimes I took a nap all by myself. We aren’t allowed to accompany our humans at the swimming pool nor the restaurant. But we are welcome at the reception with bar. We can play in the gardens, actually I always found a ball there, stroll around at the outdoor areas and you can use the lift. I prefer the stairs but that’s just me!
**There are lots of walks and sights around. Have a look yourself at their website.

Set in the commercial and cultural heart of Bilbao, Hostal Central might be one of your best bets if you travel low-budget with your pet.
This time, I didn’t stay overnight here with my humans. I just dropped one of my humans of as she had to get an early plane the next morning from the airport. But after this experience I guess, she’ll let me stay next time, too!
We got a real warm welcome, I guess the owners are really fond of animals as they told us some anecdotes about other guests and their pets. The rooms are very basic, but clean and with all facilities you might need. There’s even a coffee machine in each room (coffee, tea, biscuits) for humans!
I was allowed to walk around at reception and the best was, that this guesthouse is so centrally located. It’s a 10 minutes’ walk from the Guggenheim Museum, and the Concordia Train station, just 240 meters to the closest Metro station “Moyua” as well as the Bilbao Airport transfer bus (The Airport is about 15 minutes away).
My humans specially loved the central location and that we (pets) are allowed on request, without extra charge.
I hope I can come on their next shopping trip to Bilbao!
** There are plenty of places to eat out nearby. Numerous bars, restaurants as well as supermarkets can be found within 6 minutes’ walk. It’s only a 10 minutes’ walk to the Guggenheim Museum. Public transport possibilities close by.

Hotel Santa Cruz***, Cangas de Onís, Asturias
Three star hotel Santa Cruz is situated just a walk away from the centre of Cangas de Onís in a quiet area with nice views, next to the chapel of Santa Cruz and the Dolmén from pre-historical times.
Besides offering accommodation you can also enjoy the informal atmosphere of the café/bar or having a meal in the restaurant “El Dolmen” which offers local cuisine in a cosy setting. Homemade food with local products such as the well-known and highly recommendable “fabada” but also the local meat and fish dishes are a good bet.
Best of all is that we, dogs, are welcome too. There’s an additional fee of 10€ per dog/day, which according to my humans is a lot, but honestly we did get a treat! In our room we found a big water bowl for two, a smaller bowl for each of us and a big, nice cushion for each of us too. Me, Tibor and Tessa were thrilled! When humans make a reservation with pets, they’ll be asked about your weight and size, but only to make sure they’ve got the right size of cushion for you, a nice detail!
At breakfast time, feel free to wait in the room for your humans – no problem! Our humans told us that breakfast was nice with a wide range of local products. They enjoyed it.
Just behind the hotel you’ll find a park with a playground for children. Because of the latter it isn’t advisable to do you needs here, or walk around off the leash. But besides the park there’s a nice walk along the river too. Very recommendable and you’ll be able to do your thing. Of course our humans should clean up afterwards.
** Situated near the National Park of Picos de Europe in Asturias. Access to places such as the Covadonga lakes, Sotres, Cares gorge walk… . Besides the connections to the main roads to Oviedo, León or Santander are near, as well as the airport of Asturias which is just 1,5 away.

Pradillo Conil is a modern style hotel situated just a short 10 minutes walk from the town centre of Conil de la Frontera with its beautiful beaches such as La Fontanilla and Playa de El Roqueo as well as many excellent restaurants and terraces.
The hotel offers absolute tranquillity and lots of facilities for our humans such as a large sunbathing area, chlorine free swimming pools and a lovely garden area providing them the perfect place to relax. We, dogs, are welcome too although we aren’t allowed in the public areas. I, Nimbus, got a very pleasant treatment from the staff.
Here some information about us pets, who are allowed under the following Policy: ”Your pet can not stay in public areas, must be in the arms of the owner or strapped, for reasons of respect for other clients. The pet cannot stay in the room alone for reasons of respect for the cleaning staff, except during breakfast hours, when the pet can be left on the balcony of your room. You must provide a number of credit card as a guarantee in case of damage to the room. Our goal is for our customers to rest, both the pet and the rest of the people are respected and everything is for the good rest and coexistence of both parties”.
My human friend really enjoy the location, the atmosphere and special familiar attention. There’s free parking too. She had to play a supplement for me, but we can’t remember exactly how much that was, I guess about some 10 €/day.
I enjoyed every single moment being with her. Exploring new places, enjoying walks and simply having a great time.
**Situated at only a short 10 minutes walk from the town centre its perfect to combine the calmness and peace of the hotel with a nice variety of activities in its surroundings. For example sports such as surfing, horse-riding or golf etc. There’s a wide range of restaurants and bars where you’ll be able to enjoy the fantastic local gastronomy.
