Accommodations

“travel broadens the mind”…. I certainly do agree! The problem is that we dogs aren’t accepted everywhere. Therefore this site, ‘cause although it isn’t always easy to find a suitable place to stay, nothing is impossible!
You’ll find campsites, B&B’s, hotels, rural houses or apartments….whatever suits you and your human fellows best.
Like always, they expect us to be calm and behave. But,…. I expect this won’t be a problem. I never met a dog so far who was drunk, didn’t want to pay the bill or took away some towels as a souvenir!

As I live in Spain, at this moment I’ve got more possibilities in Spain than elsewhere. Please do join in, if you know appropriate accommodations in other countries as well as in Spain. Of course only places you hardly recommend as this is a non-profit site and not a way of free publicity just because.

PLEASE CONTACT ME AND SHARE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES.

                                                                                                                                             Stay: 8th – 9th June 2016

During our cycle holiday of this year, my humans decided to explore the Province of North-Brabant, the Netherlands.  I, Tibor, ran fully equipped (with Springer and trailer) big parts of the trail next to them and enjoyed myself to the fullest. Tessa, my still puppy daughter, did a great job herself too.

We got ourselves a membership from the organization “vrienden op de fiets” that gives you the opportunity to stay at private houses as well as at B&B for a special “Friends” price. This “Tuinhuisje” (garden house) is completely renovated and the perfect place to stay for a couple of days. Henry and Els, the pleasant owners do accept non-members too.

It was a bit hard to find, as we came by bicycle, but once we arrived we couldn’t believe our eyes.
Just along a sand path, actually within the forest, that was where we would spend the night…. things couldn’t get better! But that wasn’t all… something which is listed up as a “garden house” can be everything, but you should have seen the expression on the face of my humans! Their body language said it all! It was the most beautiful garden house they had ever seen. Like in a fairy tale! Fully equipped with a modern luxurious bathroom with even a bathtub! A lovely und nicely decorated bedroom with a table and comfortable chairs and even a tiny little kitchen block where they could prepare coffee, tea or small dishes. They were delighted, while Tessa and I were having a ball in the huge garden!

The family has got three dogs themselves. They stayed behind a fence, so we had our privacy. Of course we went every now and then to see and great them. Especially Sophie, a gorgeous German shepherd, still a puppy herself we found very interesting. They had a Tessa too and a Pleuntje. All of them social and friendly.

For me, and I’m sure Tessa agrees, the best of all was the huge garden and the location. In the middle of the wood…. we just had to leave the garden to get on walking trails. On some of them you are even allowed to walk off the leash. Asking my humans,… they don’t know what to pick! The garden house itself, the hospitality, the fantastic breakfast… they just loved it all!

They didn’t charge any extra fees for us.

**About activities compatible with dogs there are plenty of walks (some off-leash, at all time it will be very well signposted) and also the cycle tours with “Knooppunten” (special knots connecting places around) connects from here. There are some restaurants nearby. The Loonse en Drunense Duinen is what people mainly come for. We had a fantastic time!

We got ourselves a membership from the organization “vrienden op de fiets” (friends on bicycles) that gives you the opportunity to stay at private locations as well as at B&B’s for a special “Friends” price. B&B Achter het rode hek cooperates besides being a B&B. (Which means you can stay here being a member or not).

The B&B is situated in Herpt about 30 meters from a quiet street behind a Red Gate. After entering you’ll find yourself immediately in a different world. A wild, colourful garden invites you to discover each corner of it. In the middle there’s a fish pond, very interesting but of course you’re not allowed to get in(!) and there are several cosy corners and terraces around. Mr. and Mrs. Harting gave us a warm welcome at arrival.

There are 3 guestrooms, we got the blue one. A nice, spacious room with lots of details. Travellers as we are we liked that a lot. Our humans especially loved the decoration around. A lot of art and handmade objects! We loved the natural materials such as wood and the smell of it. Here, humans, have to share the bathroom, which wasn’t a problem at all. There’s also a corner where humans can prepare themselves a cup of tea or coffee, all surrounded by books and magazines.

One other room was occupied too. This is how we met “Wieffie” a small dog. After our humans had a marvellous breakfast, Tessa played a bit with her in the garden.

We, dogs are allowed on request only. They charged us an extra fee of 5€ per dog/day.

**About activities in the surroundings there is plenty to see. The cities: Heusden and ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Theme Park Efteling and the National parks “Loonse en Drunense Duinen” such as “De Biesbosch” are a must. The cycle tours with “Knooppunten” (special knots connecting places around)  LF12 Maas- en Vestingroute and Route Amsterdam-Rome start from here. In Heusden it was easy to find restaurants were we dogs are welcome too.

Family Van der Zanden offer you a fully equipped apartment with your own entrance and little terrace. They’ve got a small, friendly dog called Dindy. She was very kind and Astrid and Marcel, her humans told us that we could share the huge garden with Dindy. So we did, taking care of the flowers and plants of course. We just loved the space after a long day “on the road”.

Our humans were thrilled about the beauty of the apartment with all its luxury and lovely details. We were all very happy with the air-condition too as it was a warm summer day. Although it was a bit hard to find by bike (the apartment is actually situated in Nijnsel, which is situated just a bit outside of St.-Oedenrode surrounded by the river “De Dommel”) we were glad to find it in a quiet neighbourhood. That day there was a “Kermis” so it was busier than usual, anyway we had a great night sleep.

They charge an extra fee of 10€ per dog/day.

**About activities compatible with dogs there are plenty of walks (info boards along the street) and also the cycle tours with “Knooppunten” (special knots connecting places around) start from here. In Nijnsel town there is a great snack bar too, where they offered us right away a water nap!

                                                                                                                                                             Stay: July 2015

This year my family decided to go to Drenthe. My name is Hoppe and let me tell you, I just loved that plan! We stayed in a gorgeous apartment with all kind of facilities, cosy, extremely comfortable and clean. A place where you immediately feel at home and looking forward to get back to by the end of the day.

My family was especially happy with the well-equipped kitchen and the perfect shower. After a long day they’re happy to have a nice meal at “home”. Also very pleased with the friendly owners giving you space but also happy to have a chat whenever you feel like it. We didn’t have to pay any extra fees for me.

The owners of the property Marc and Ellen have got a huge ground behind their house next to the parking. Great to sniff and explore around. Around the farm there’s a lot of space to do your needs. I did mine on the leash. As I know how to behave, I was allowed to walk of the leash over the ground. No problem as I only did this when we were all by ourselves.

What I loved the most… the location and the environment. Every day we did something new and great! Even when we went shopping I was almost everywhere allowed to enter. The waterareas of Rietplas in Emmen and the Stieltjeskanaal were my favourites. I’m a real Vizsla and I just love water, what about you guys?

At the moment (July 2015) there are 4 apartments for rent and the plan to create a campsite isn’t finished yet.

**Ideal location for  daytrips in the surroundings such as Emmen, Assen and Hoogeveen or walking areas like Hondsrug at Emmen (Incl. Hunebed) or the Sleenerzand at Sleen. Plenty of water to swim nearby: Zandpol (for people) and rietplas in Emmen en the Stieltjeskanaal for us dogs. There’re several lakes in the forest. Daytrips to Lingen (Germany) and Veenhuizen (brewery Mallust and dairy Kaaslust) are a must!

                                                                                                                                             Stay: 8th – 9th June 2015

During our cycle trip through the Netherlands we stayed one night in Hotel Restaurant Ruimzicht situated right in Zeddam. Once entering in this hotel complex  you’ll notice it’s much bigger than it looks like from the outside. They can definitely have bus groups over (actually this was the case earlier that day), but still haven’t lost that “personal touch” while dealing with their customers.

We had a warm welcome and even a great locked box to leave our bicycles during the night.

As they knew I was coming they offered us a room with a tiny piece of garden on the ground floor (Room 16), so that I was able to stay outside too. The room was big and although the furniture wasn’t the newest, everything was clean and comfortable. I didn’t like the floor covering that much, as I’ve got a lot of hair myself, but I loved the possibility of going outside easily. Especially once I noticed that I had a pretty Australian Shepherd lady in the neighbourhood. I liked her a lot, but I think she was even more fond of me! She just couldn’t stay away from me… .

My humans liked the fact that they got a room card that mentioned on it “with dog”. That meant that I was allowed to accompany them everywhere. There are special parts of the restaurant reserved for guests with dogs during, breakfast, lunch and dinner time! As always I took meanwhile a nap under the table. The additional costs for a dog are only 5 € a day, but I tell you that you’ll feel more than welcome here. It’s without doubt worth the money.

**About activities there are plenty of possibilities. We noticed that some guests had a special walking arrangement meanwhile others came to do cycle tours. Zeddam is a great spot to start from for day trips in the surroundings.

                                                                                                                                                             Stay: June 2015

During our holiday this year, my humans decided to do a cycle tour through the Province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. I ran, fully equipped (with Springer and trailer) next to them and enjoyed myself to the fullest.

We got ourselves a membership from the organization “vrienden op de fiets” that gives you the opportunity to stay at private houses as well as at B&B for a special “Friends” price. B&B Rouwenhorst is part of those special locations besides being a B&B. (Which means you can stay here being a member or not)

As family Garretsen own a dog themselves, a (puppy) Rottweiler-Sennerdog, they did ask us on forehand if I was a well-educated dog, just in case. As I am, no further questions or limits were set. This B&B is a quiet located farm house just past Barchem. We got a huge room with an ever bigger shared bathroom next to it. Besides the offer the free use of a lovely garden house set in the garden surrounded by fields, fields and more fields. The garden is well taken care of and you will see some goat, a pig, chicken and go so on. I loved strolling around here without any bounders. Just across the street there are some walking paths and the landlady recommended us this place, so I could do my things there. Great idea, as I love the smell of wood, plants or to make a long story short: the forest.

My humans were especially happy with the amazing breakfast and the location. The area around the garden house was the place to be for all of us. I hardly recommend you to stay here at least once in your life! No extra fees for dogs either!

**About activities compatible with dogs there are plenty of walks (just across the street) and also the cycle tours with “Knooppunten” (special knots connecting places around) start from here. In Barchem town there is a nice restaurant “De Groene Jager” too, where they are happy to have dogs.
