I don’t like it very much when my humans leave me in the car. Although it’s like a second home to me, temperature changes are a fact and mainly it’s extremely boring. Sometimes strangers even knock on the window and I’m not sure what they want from me. That’s why I recommend you all to take us with you, while you’re going for a meal. Here you’ll find some nice RESTAURANTS and bars here we dogs are welcome too.

Like always, they expect us to be calm and behave. So remember not to bark or run around! A lot of those places offer even special facilities such as a drinking bowl for us.

Hidden away amongst the Somerset country lanes between Bruton and Wincanton, is the Montague Inn; a traditional 17th century country pub where everyone receives a warm welcome including us!

The cosy bar guarantees a warm and friendly atmosphere for that quiet chat or the simple enjoyment of the local ales and ciders humans like so much.  From the restaurant you can enjoy the view overlooking the terrace and garden with wide reaching rural views. We can accompany our humans in one part of the restaurant. There’s a lot of space between tables, so you can make yourself comfortable without being concerned too much. Tessa and I, Tibor, took a great nap here!

The owners Sean and Suzy O’Callaghan are very friendly and I love one of the sentences on their website that says:

‘A favoured meeting place, half way to everywhere in the middle of nowhere.
Come and visit us; with the family, the dogs or just on your own we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.’

Our humans loved the food and service.  The restaurant delivers gastro pub style food using the best local produce. People smiling and having a good time everywhere. We even got a special treat – a dog-biscuit for being such well-behaved dogs! Hopefully we go again, one day.

** Wonderful 17th-century inn serving simple, imaginative meals using organic treats from local farms. Friendly welcome for dogs and kids, too. Nice if you stay in Castle Cary or surroundings.

Set in the picturesque historical market town of Castle Cary town centre, this quaint 15th-century inn called ‘The George Hotel’ hosts this fabulous dog-friendly steak and grill restaurant: ‘The Knights Restaurant & gin bar’, where I went with my humans for dinner more than once.

The Knight’s Restaurant offers a steak and grill menu, with a in room gin & prosecco bar which is candlelit by night, which creates a lovely cosy atmosphere for your humans to enjoy their meal. A big part of it is Dog-Friendly, although you aren’t allowed everywhere. Booking is advisable and the best way to assure you and your humans there’s space.

Tessa and I, Tibor, felt very welcome. The floor was nice and cool and there was a lot of space between each table which gave us plenty of room for a nice nap around our table.

This restaurant belongs to the George Hotel, featuring modern home-style decor with airy rooms where dogs are allowed too on request without extra charge. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, TV, a desk, as well as tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. Some rooms have original wood beams, and 1 has a 4-poster bed.

**The Knights Restaurant & Gin Bar is part of The George Hotel which is situated in Castle Cary about 4 miles from Haynes International Motor Museum, and 13 miles from Glastonbury Abbey, the legendary burial place of King Arthur.

‘The Palk Arms is a 16th Century Free House, situated in Hennock only 2 miles from Bovey Tracey, within Dartmoor National Park. The traditional rural Devon pub offers locally brewed real ales, great wines and serves high quality pub food at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere with extensive views over the Teign Valley.

What a friendly welcome I got when we entered the pub! Not only by the staff, and the owners Ivan and Jane with their great four-legged pal Olive, also the locals (clients of the bar) were all very friendly. I felt like I was just one more of the village.

During meals you’re allowed to be with your humans at all time unless you’re on the lead. It was great to take a nap under the table meanwhile they were having a meal.

**Besides, this independent village pub offers four nice en-suite rooms (B&B). All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, a flatscreen TV, hairdryer and free Wifi.

 Stay: 8th – 10th June 2017

On my first trip through the UK with my daughter Tessa, and my human friends, I (Tibor) spent our first two nights at a lovely B&B house called ‘The Palk Arms’. It is a 16th Century Free House, situated in Hennock only 2 miles from Bovey Tracey, within Dartmoor National Park. This independent village pub offers four nice en-suite rooms (B&B). All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, a flatscreen TV, hairdryer and free Wifi.

My humans raved about the fantastic quality of the bed, as I had my own travellers-sleeping bag with me, and I’m never allowed to get on the bed, I’ve got to trust them on that one. The bathroom was tiny, but had all you need. The room was very clean too. Not too much noise from the bar underneath either, they said. There’s free parking a bit further (30 cow lengths) up the hill.

What a friendly welcome I got when we entered the pub! Not only by the staff, and the owners Ivan and Jane with their great four-legged pal Olive, also the locals (clients of the bar) were all very friendly. I felt like I was just one more of the village.

The traditional rural Devon pub offers locally brewed real ales, great wines and serves high quality pub food at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere with extensive views over the Teign Valley.

During meals you’re allowed to be with your humans at all time unless you’re on the lead. It was great to be with them during breakfast and dinner time.

We really like Jane’s and Ivan’s recommendations about the big field next to the camping where Tessa and I could run freely and relief ourselves. Probably Olive’s favourite too! My humans liked all the details about walks and making sure they had all the information they needed.

They do charge £7.50 to cover the cost for carpet cleaning after every stay of dogs. My humans didn’t bother as we really enjoyed our stay and we felt very welcome as a pack. Hopefully we come back!

** The Palk Arms is a traditional rural pub and a firm favourite with walkers, cyclists, horse riders, tourists and locals. One of the few independent village pubs in the area. Set high above the Teign Valley it has wonderful panoramic views over the rolling hills and beautiful countryside near Bovey Tracey and within the Dartmoor National Park. Maps and tourist information available.

July 2016

Situated in one of the most astonishing side streets “Calle el Sol” of Potes, you’ll find this popular spot, well-known under the locals as “La Luna en el Sol”.

A nicely decorated frontage calls immediately your attention. The smell of fresh herbs and flowers as well as the typical cidre “Sidra” not to confuse with the French version of it are one of the first things you will notice.

Here you’re not only allowed at the outdoor terrace, but also inside! The bar itself is quiet small and narrow, so on a crowded day, you might not feel too comfortable. But on the other hand on any quiet day this is your spot! The owners of the bar, Rikke and Magda, just love animals. They’ve got a handsome dog Kazan themselves as well as a black beauty cat.

Our humans love the wide selection of fresh teas. Besides the assortment of beers, wines and non-alcoholic drinks.

See you around, Tibor!

August 2016

Woof Tibor, it’s been a while that you came over to visit me. We played so nice together, remember? Tessa was still a bit shy back then, although later she did join in.

This evening my owners took me for a walk to the centre of Oirschot. They took a seat at the terrace of Auberge de Zwaan right on the market of Oirshot. When my humans got their drinks served I got spoiled too! What a surprise, they didn’t only bring me a bowl of fresh water, but also some delicious homemade biscuits!

At Auberge De Zwaan humans can enjoy a good glass of wine or even a lunch, high tea or diner. From the terrace you’ve got a great view over the historical market and the St.-Pieterschurch of Oirschot. A great spot! I just wanted to share this with you as I just had an unforgettable summer evening. You should go and see for yourself.

 Visit: June 2016

Situated next to the Cathedral of Chartres you will find this cosy restaurant. Access from two sides! We were just strolling around once my humans saw this attractive restaurant. After popping in to ask if Tessa and I (Tibor) were allowed to come in too and the answer was an extremely friendly “Yes, of course”, my humans didn’t hesitate for a second.

Healthy and honest food is served in a cosy atmosphere. Warm colours and nice details, such as books, maps, pieces of art are found everywhere. I, Tibor, loved the fact that my humans choose for a pleasant corner with plenty of space for Tessa and me to stretch our legs.

My humans were positively surprised by the presentation of their food and the friendly service. Definitely a great place to take a nap while your folks have food.

“La Mejillonera de Somera”: mussels and much more in the heart of Bilbao’s old town centre. Typical tapas such as “Gilda’s”, pintxos of Spanish omelette hamaiketako style, squid on Sundays… all very traditional in Bilbao but sometimes it’s just nice to have a change, so why not with seafood?

In one of the most characteristic streets of Bilbao you’ll find “La Mejillonera de Somera” no wonder, specialized in mussels! With a distinctive blue-tiled facade, very marine-styled and a modern, open and space interior inviting you with high tables and bar chairs to enjoy some leisure time. Here humans can try a great variety of mussels all differently and well-prepared with tasty  marinades (marine style, spicy, Somera….).  My humans tried a variety of pintxos and a portion of mussels. All looking and smelling great!

Again, it wasn’t a problem at all for me, Tibor, to enter! So I had a terrific day together with my humans in Bilbao.
