The second B&B where I (Tibor) stayed with my pack during my UK-journey was at Ellesmere House at the entrance of a lovely town called Castle Cary in Somerset. The landlady was called Melanie, just like my human friend, so special!

The three-floored Victorian house has got a great garden. From the windows you’ve got amazing views out the back lead onto fields accessed from a gate in the garden. From the front it overlooks Glastonbury Tor. My daughter Tessa and I loved exploring around in the garden. We had access to every part of it without being called back not once. It is somewhere to feel totally relaxed as if you are in your own house. Melanie, the hostess really adores dogs! She just couldn’t get enough of hugging us. There were two house-dogs too. We wanted to play with the greyhound, but she was recovering from surgery so we unfortunately we couldn’t. Maybe next time.

Our humans loved the spacious room. Each room is beautifully decorated in an elegant Bohemian style. It was all very clean, and we loved the soft touch of the floor. The continental breakfast is on the house – yoghurt, locally baked bread, croissants, granola, muesli and such like – if people would like a cooked breakfast it is £7.50 per person. They also organise suppers on request. The coffee was great too! Like in most English B&B there were tea/coffee facilities in the room. We didn’t have an en-suite room but the shared bathroom was great and our humans had it all for themselves anyway.

I especially loved the garden and the walking facilities just starting from the garden. It’s only a short walk to the centre of Castle Cary. I was welcome in most of the bars and restaurants.

There might be an extra charge for dogs at Ellesmere House. Just talk to them about it.

** There are plenty of bars en restaurants nearby where you can go to with your humans. A nice place to explore interesting sights such as Stonehenge, Salisbury, Bath, Bristol, Bradford-on-Avon etc. Melanie and Jasper the hosts will be glad to help you!

  • Wow Tibor – you are such an amazing dog. We miss you. Our latest friend in the house is Ziggy – an Italian greyhound who is more used to going through the streets of Milan or Notting Hill than the countryside and loves it here. His owner calls it bootcamp but he love all the fresh air and exercise. I am curling up with the dogs here and loving all the guests that visit us here. I particularly enjoy going into the garden and having a woof but I’m told that annoys the neighbours so I’ve learnt to keep quiet. I fancy Poppy the lurcher but she is a bit tall for me. We all play together instead. Being by the Aga is the best place to sleep. I wish I had met you Tibor. You sound fabulous to me. x

    • Hi Pippa Nina and Poppy,
I am wooooooffff sorry that my friends Melanie & Carlos didn’t let me know earlier that you wrote me! What a great thing to hear from you.
I had such a wonderful time at your place. The huge room with a nice smell coming in from the garden. The garden with all those beautiful plants, the hill behind the house! I just loved exploring it all. Sorry I couldn’t stay longer! But who knows, we might meet again in the future!
      Paw Tibor
