We recommend you this easy walk, without altitude difficulties and well-accessible to everyone. It’s indeed a very complete excursion. Attractive and beautiful all along the walk, during only half an hour up to 45 minutes of walking. You can’t get lost, as there is only one obvious path to follow. No junctions or possibilities to get confused about which way to take. By the end of the walk you’ll find the “Olla de San Vicente”, worth a visit. No cheating here, taking a bath is definitely a “must do”! This natural swimming pool is absolutely recommendable for us dogs and also for our human friends. To us, Luz (a Golden Retriever) and Lunina (the black one), it’s  a real treat when our human friend Luisa takes us here. Especially when we go with a whole group of friends!

Take the road leaving from Cangas de Onís in direction Puerto del Pontón and after about six kilometres you’ll pass a small village called Tornín. Here on the left side of the road you’ll see a Restaurant-venta. Park your car here. Nearby the walk starts.

This short, easy walk takes about 30 – 40 minutes. Your humans should wear comfortable shoes such as trainers, no special mountain boots are required for this trail. During the first part of this walk, just follow the stream of the Dobra river, over a large sand road later on followed by a smaller trail.

Throughout the walk you may observe the great variety of flowers and trees that offers the autochthon forest. You’ll smell  a wide variety of plants and trees such as the European ash, maple trees, elms, alders and willow. Later on chestnuts, oaks and beeches.  All you see and experience in its most pure state. The water, the flowers as well as the mountains. The river Dobra conserves  still crystal clear water, one more reason why we should threat this walk with all respect. Leave your footprints but only by your paws or walking boots/shoes.

The walk is perfectly well signposted until the “Olla de San Vicente” without any complication. Besides the attractive river and nature, you’ll pass by some interesting traditional cabins and some other antique constructions such as a stone bridge dated back from Roman times or “Puente Viejo” another impressive bridge right after the start. Passing this bridge you can start another very attractive route, the “Senda del Arcediano” or you simply enjoy the magnificent view from this bridge, following the course of the river Dobra.

We don’t leave the path here, instead we continue our way following the course of the water. So far we walk over a large path until we arrive at a small valley called “La Pandiella” with some cabins and meadows.  After a couple of minutes (5 maybe) the path is narrowing and you’ll getting closer to the river. It’s fantastic! In case you’re suffering from the heat, simply use the river to refresh! Soon you’ll arrive at some cascades. Afterwards walk under a roof of alders and hazel trees until you finally reach “La Olla de San Vicente”. The perfect spot for lunch or a picnic. Be prepared for a swim, in some places the water is more than five meters deep. Enjoy your swim!

**Although the crystal clear water never really gets warm, between June and September they usually reach their best temperatures for a nice swim. An authentic experience, see for yourself!

One Response to Walk “The river Dobra”, Tornín, Cangas de Onís
